Devote
yourself to reading scripture
1 Tim 4:13
13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to
preaching and to teaching.
Lk 4:16
16 He
went to Nazareth, where
he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as
was his custom. He stood up to read, 17 and
the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the
place where it is written:
18 “The Spirit of the
Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Acts
13:14-16
13 From Paphos, Paul and his companions sailed to Perga in Pamphylia, where
John left them to return to Jerusalem. 14 From Perga they went on to Pisidian Antioch. On the
Sabbath they entered the synagogue and sat
down. 15 After the reading from the Law and the
Prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent word to them, saying, “Brothers, if
you have a word of exhortation for the people, please speak.”
We learn the following from the above verses
1) Devote yourself to reading scripture
to preaching and teaching
2) Jesus stood up and read the scroll of prophet Isaiah where it is
written “The Spirit of the Lord is on me and He anointed me to proclaim good
news to the poor”.
3) God has
sent us to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.
