We are not to pay evil for evil

Rom 12:17, 19

17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.

19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath

Pro 20:22

22 Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!”
    Wait for the Lord, and he will avenge you.

Pro 24:29

29 Do not say, “I’ll do to them as they have done to me;
    I’ll pay them back for what they did.”

We learn the following from the above verses

1)  we are not to pay evil for evil

2)  Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath

Let us not become conceited and arrogant

Rom 12:16

16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.[c] Do not be conceited.

Gal 5:26

26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

1 Tim 6:17

17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

1 Tim 3:6

He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil.

We learn the following from the above verses

1)  Let us not become conceited and arrogant

Acts 7:60

59 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

Rom 8:35

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long;
    we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”

Rom 12:14

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

12 We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; 

1 Pet 2:23

23 When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.

1)   Stephen prayed for those who stoned him to death

2)   Nothing shall separate us from the love of Christ

3)   Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse

Bless those who persecute us

Rom 12:14

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

Mt 5:44

44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven.

Lk 6:27, 28

27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

Lk 23:34

34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”[c] And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

John 15:20

20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’[b] If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.

We learn the following from the above verses

1)  Bless those who persecute us

2)  We should love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us,  that we may be children of our Father in heaven

3)  We should love our enemies, do good to those who hate us

4)  It good for us to bless those who curse us, pray for those who mistreat us

5)  Jesus prayed for those who persecuted Him on the cross

6)  Even though the world hated Jesus, He gave His life on the cross for the world to be redeemed through Him

Rom 12:13

13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

2 Ki 4:10

10 Let’s make a small room on the roof and put in it a bed and a table, a chair and a lamp for him. Then he can stay there whenever he comes to us.”

 1 Ti 3:2

Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task. Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.

Heb 13:2

Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.

1 Pet 4:9

Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

We learn the following from the above verses

1)   Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality

2)   Shunammite had showed hospitality to the man of God Elisha

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love

Rom 12:10
10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 

Psalm 133:1
How good and pleasant it is
    when God’s people live together in unity!

1 The 4:9
Now about your love for one another we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. 

Heb 13:1

Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.

22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.

1)   Be devoted to one another in brotherly love

2)   How good and pleasant it is
    when God’s people live together in unity

4)   Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.

It good for us to hate what is evil and cling to what is good

Rom 12:9

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 

Psalm 97:10

10 Let those who love the Lord hate evil,
    for he guards the lives of his faithful ones
    and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

Am 5:15

14 Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.

15 Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts.
Perhaps the Lord God Almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph.

1 The 5:21, 22

20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21 but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil.

We learn the following from the above verses

1)  It good for us to hate what is evil and cling to what is good

2)  Let those love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of His faithful ones

3)  It good for us to seek good not evil so that we may live

4)  When we seek good, the Lord almighty will be with us

5)  It good for us to hold on to what is good and reject every kind of evil
