Putting off our old self to be made new in the attitude of our minds

Eph 4:22, 25, 31

22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds;

25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.

31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.

Col 3:5, 8, 9

Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.

 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. 



Jas 1:21

21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

1 Pet 2:1

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. 

 We learn the following from the above verses

Living a life worthy of our calling


Living a life worthy of our calling

 Eph 4:1

As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

Col 1:10

We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,[e] 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God

1 The 2:12

11 For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, 12 encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.

Php 1:27

27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.

We learn the following from the above verses

1)  Living a life worthy of our calling by being completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

2)  We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way

3)  Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.

4)  We are to be encouraging, comforting and urging others to live lives worthy of God, who calls us into His kingdom and glory

God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine

Eph 3:20

20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.

Rom 16:25

25 Now to him who is able to establish you in accordance with my gospel, the message I proclaim about Jesus Christ, in keeping with the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, 26 but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all the Gentiles might come to the obedience that comes from[f] faith— 27 to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.

2 Cor 9:8

 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written:
“They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor;
    their righteousness endures forever.”[a]

10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

1 Ki 3:13

12 I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. 13 Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both wealth and honor—so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings.14 And if you walk in obedience to me and keep my decrees and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life.”

We learn the following from the above verses

1)    God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine

2)    God is able to establish us in accordance with His gospel, the message we proclaim about Jesus Christ, in keeping with the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past

3)    God is able to bless us abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that we need, we will abound in every good work. 

4)    We will be enriched in every way so that we can be generous on every occasion, resulting in thanksgiving to God.

5)    God gave Solomon more than what he has asked for, so that he can be blessing for others

6)     If we walk in obedience to God and keep His decrees and commands as David our father did, God will give us a long life.

May God strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being

Eph 3:16

16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.

Php 4:13

13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

2 Cor 12:9

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 

Col 1:11

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,[e] 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, 12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you[f] to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.

2 Tim 4:17

17 But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

We learn the following from the above verses

1)   May God strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being

2)  We can do everything through him who gives us strength.

3)  The power of Christ will rest on us so that His power is made perfect in our weakness

4)  Bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience.

5)  Christ Jesus our Lord gives us strength



6)  The Lord stood at our side and gave us strength, so that through us the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it and we were delivered from the lion’s mouth.

Through the faith in Jesus we may approach God with freedom and confidence

Eph 3:12

12 In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.

2 Cor 3:4

You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

Such confidence we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. 

Heb 3:14

14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.


Heb 4:16

16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

We learn the following from the above verses

1)  Through the faith in Jesus we may approach God with freedom and confidence

2)  We have confidence through Christ before God as our competence comes from God

3)  We have our share in Christ

4)  Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
