The wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight

The wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight

1 Cor 3:19

19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”[a]; 20 and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.

Rom 1:22

22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

1 Cor 1:20, 27

20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

We learn the following from the above verses

1)  The wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight

2)  Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

3)  God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise

4)  God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong

5)  God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are,  so that no one may boast before him.

  1. Our wisdom comes from our experience, and our experience comes from our foolishness. See the link below for more info.
