God will give us the holy and sure blessings promised to David

God will give us the holy and sure blessings promised to David

Acts 13:23, 33

22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’

23 “From this man’s descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he
promised.

32 “We tell you the good news: What God promised our ancestors 33 he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm:

“‘You are my son;
today I have become your father.’[b]

34 God raised him from the dead so that he will never be subject to decay. As God has said,

“‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.’[c]

35 So it is also stated elsewhere:
“‘You will not let your holy one see decay.’

We learn the following from the above verses

1)    From David’s descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised.

2)    God raised Jesus from the dead so that He will never be subject to decay.

3)    God has said,

“‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.’

Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations

Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations

Rom 4:20, 21

18 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”[d]

19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead.

20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God,

21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

Rom 9:8

8 In other words, it is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring.

We learn the following from the above verses

1)    Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations

2)    Without weakening in his faith, Abraham faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead.

3)    Yet Abraham did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

4)    It is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring.

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.

2 Cor 1:20

20 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.

2 Cor 7:1

Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.

Rom 9:9

8 In other words, it is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring. 9 For this was how the promise was stated: “At the appointed time I will return, and Sarah will have a son.

Rom 15:8

8 For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews[b] on behalf of God’s truth, so that the promises made to the patriarchs might be confirmed 9 and, moreover, that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy.

We learn the following from the above verses

1)    For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.

2)    Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.

3)    It is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring.

4)    Christ has become a servant of the Jews[b] on behalf of God’s truth, so that the promises made to the patriarchs might be confirmed 9 and, moreover, that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy.

By faith we would receive the promise of the Spirit

By faith we would receive the promise of the Spirit

Gal 3:14, 15, 16, 17

14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

15 Brothers and sisters, let me take an example from everyday life. Just as no one can set aside or add to a human covenant that has been duly established, so it is in this case.

16 The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed,”[i] meaning one person, who is Christ.

17 What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise.

18 For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.

We learn the following from the above verses

1)    Jesus redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

2)    God intended to bless us through Jesus that was promised to Abraham

3)    God in His grace gave the inheritance to Abraham through a promise

4)    By faith we would receive the promise of the Spirit

We are children of promise like Isaac

We are children of promise like Isaac

Gal 4:28

28 Now you, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise.

Gal 4:23

22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman. 23 His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise.

Eph 1:13

13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

Eph 2:12

11 Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “the circumcision” (which is done in the body by human hands)— 12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

We learn the following from the above verses

1)    We are children of promise like Isaac

2)    When we believed, we were marked in Christ with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit

3)    Holy Spirit is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession

4)    When we were uncircumcised,   we were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world.

But now in Christ Jesus we once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

Godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

Godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

1 Tim 4:8

8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

Eph 6:3

2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”[a]

Eph 3:3

2 Surely you have heard about the administration of God’s grace that was given to me for you, 3 that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly.

6 This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.

2 Tim 1:1

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, in keeping with the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus

Tit 1:3

Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness— 2 in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time, 3 and which now at his appointed season he has brought to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior

We learn the following from the above verses

1)    Godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

2)    “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise—  “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”[

3)    The mystery that revealed to Paul was that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.

4)    We have promise of life in Christ Jesus

5)    God has promised us eternal life

God has promised us eternal life

God has promised us eternal life

1 John 2:25

25 And this is what he promised us—eternal life.

 2 Pet 3:4, 9, 13

4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”

9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.

We learn the following from the above verses

1)    God has promised us eternal life

2)    Jesus second coming is a promise

3)    The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

4)    But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.
