Devote yourself to prayer

Col 4:2

² Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. ³ And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.

Luke 18:1

Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.

Isa 40:31

³¹ but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint.

Lk 11: 9, 10

⁹ “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. ¹⁰ For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

We learn the following from the above verses

1)    Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

Pro 1:8

⁸ Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction
    and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.

⁹ They are a garland to grace your head
    and a chain to adorn your neck.

Pro 6:20

²⁰ My son, keep your father’s command
    and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.

²¹ Bind them always on your heart;
    fasten them around your neck.

    when you sleep, they will watch over you;

We learn the following from the above verses

1)    Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.

3)    Honor your father and mother so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.

4)    Father’s instruction and mothers teaching are a garland to grace your head
    and a chain to adorn your neck.

   

5)    Keep your father’s command
    and do not forsake your mother’s teaching, when you walk, they will guide you;
    when you sleep they will watch over you;

    when you awake, they will speak to you.

²⁵ Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her26 to make her holy, cleansing^[b] her by the washing with water through the word, ²⁷ and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

²⁸ In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

We learn the following from the above verses

1)    Husbands love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

 Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, ² when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. 

 ⁵ For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves. They submitted themselves to their own husbands, ⁶ like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her lord. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.

We learn the following from the above verses

1)    Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with wisdom

2)    Message of Christ brings faith

3)    God’s word is a lamb for our feet, a light on our path

4)    God’s word sanctifies us

5)    Word of God works in those who believe.

¹⁵ Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 

John 14:27

²⁷ Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

¹⁷ For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, ¹⁸ because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval.
